Wooden Door and floors in Galway
There are three methods used to install wooden floors:
Choosing which flooring installation method depends on the type used and whether it is installed on the ground or first floor of your home and the subfloor material, EG concrete, wood subfloor or directly on to joisting.
Floating
Using this method , the flooring is not glued or nailed to the subfloor, but floated above it using a underlay of 3 to 5mm depending on the subfloor its being installed on.
The flooring, usually laminate or engineered is clipped or glued together. This gives the floor strength without actually fixing it to the subfloor. Before installation the subfloor must be checked for moisture content and levelness. Any low or high spots must be levelled prior to insallation.
Glue Down
The glue down installation method involves using adhesives to bind the flooring to the subfloor, the adhesive is spread evenly over the subfloor with the flooring installed over creating a bond between the subfloor and wood flooring. This method has excellent sound deadening qualities.
Nail Down
Nailing down wood flooring involves nailing the flooring directly through the tongue of the board to the wood subfloor beneath. The flooring is nailed with a special tool which hides the nails in the tongue of the flooring, making them invisible after installation.
