What Is First Fix And Second Fix Carpentry?
See our 1st & 2nd Fixing Gallery>>
1st and 2nd fix are terms used in the construction industry. In carpentry the 1st fix usually refers to structural work which is done before the plastering of a building. This would include installation of roof rafters, slate or tile roof coverings, floor joists, studding of internal walls and door frames
The division into 1st fix and 2nd fix comes from the number of phases needed to finish a job. After the 1st fix a carpenter would normally take a break from the project to allow other trades people to complete their work. For Example: Plumbers and electricians. When this phase of the build is complete, the carpenters can then continue with the 2nd fix carpentry which would comprise of installation of the doors, floors, skirting and architrave.
At AK Carpentry we are experienced at both 1st and 2nd fix carpentry and also offer full project management service where we can source local reliable tradesmen to complete your development plans.
